The U.S. has welcomed close to 90,000 Afghan refugees since the fall of Kabul in August 2021. Many face steep career barriers despite the fact that they often have extensive professional and educational backgrounds, and struggle to find jobs that match their skills and background.
The U.S. business community – and critically, U.S. military veterans who are employed at major companies – are well placed to help address this challenge. By tapping into the nationwide network of U.S. veterans to provide mentorship to Afghans, businesses can play a critical role in supporting Afghans who are looking to restart their careers, or in helping mid-to-high skilled Afghans seeking to bridge to roles more commensurate with their experience.
