More than a dozen companies voice opposition to proposed rule to slow down work permits for asylum seekers

Reuters reporter Ted Hesson covered the U.S. business community’s response to a proposal from the Trump administration which seeks to slow down the approval process for refugees and asylum seekers looking to obtain work permits.

Tent and the National Immigration Forum rallied support from more than a dozen companies who sent a letter to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in opposition to the policy. 

The signatories, including Chobani, AirBnb, DoorDash, and Ben & Jerry’s, said in the letter:  “We are concerned that the proposed rule would hurt our ability to attract and retain talent… Many of the undersigned companies already have asylum seekers in our workforce and many will have need to hire members of this population in the months ahead.”
