Tent receives prestigious OAS award for its work on Venezuelan refugee crisis
On December 5, 2019, the Tent Partnership for Refugees received the prestigious Corporate Citizen of the Americas Award – awarded by the Trust of the Americas and the Organization of American States (OAS) – in recognition of its work to mobilize the business community to support Venezuelan refugees across the region.
Tent has motivated and worked with companies to develop meaningful commitments to hire refugees, invest in refugee entrepreneurs, and provide services for refugees. To date, Tent’s activities have directly led businesses to commit to hire 4,500 refugees, support over 2,000 refugee-owned businesses and improve access to services for more than 110,000 refugees in Latin America.
Tent was recognized alongside Colombian hamburger company Sierra Nevada, which has hired Venezuelans and provided affordable food for refugees; and Brazilian social enterprise Migraflix, which works on fostering refugee entrepreneurship.
Gideon Maltz, Executive Director of Tent, said, “It’s a great honor to be recognized alongside previous winners of this prestigious award, like BBVA, Coca-Cola, Diageo and Pfizer. At Tent, we’re focussed on stepping up our work in the region, encouraging even more companies to support refugees throughout Latin America.”
