PRESS RELEASE: UNHCR, IOM, Tent Partnership for Refugees, and Indeed launch job fair series in Warsaw and Krakow
- Organisations committed to supporting refugees will connect jobseekers to open positions at 30+ major companies in Poland.
Warsaw, December 6, 2022 — The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent), and Indeed, have joined forces to organise a series of hiring fairs across Poland for job-seekers, including refugees from Ukraine.
The first two job fairs will be held this week in Warsaw on 6th December and in Krakow on 8th December, with the support of local authorities.
While the job fairs are open to all who are seeking employment, they are especially catering for refugees, helping them connect to work opportunities in Poland. While many refugees from Ukraine have found employment, others are still looking for a job. Despite having mid to high levels of education, they face significant barriers to employment, such as language barriers, childcare needs, or transportation issues.
“We are pleased that more and more refugees from Ukraine are finding jobs in Poland — something which the Government of Poland and the private sector have made possible. Together with partner organisations and local authorities we want to reinforce that trend. Having a job is beneficial not only for refugees, but also for hosting communities and — more broadly – for the larger economy,” said Kevin Allen, UNHCR Representative in Poland.
Over 30 major companies with operations in Poland – including Accenture, ISS, Marriott International, and Pfizer will be taking part in the upcoming job fairs. Together, they are looking to fill over 1000 vacancies at a variety of skill levels – from entry level through to managerial positions – across their companies. On site, job-seekers will have an opportunity to meet employers and be interviewed for open positions. They will also be able to meet with human resources experts for advice and attend workshops on topics such as how to draft a good CV. Specialists on career development, labour law, and taxation in Poland will also be present to share their expertise with jobseekers.
“We are thrilled that many major companies have enthusiastically registered for our first job fairs in Poland,” said Paulina Jaworska, Poland Director for the Tent Partnership for Refugees. “With so many refugees from Ukraine currently in Poland, there is an urgent need for the business community to take action to hire this population. We hope that many more companies will join this effort: at Tent, we are convinced that it is good for refugees, good for business and good for society.”
“Working with our partners, we know there is a clear correlation between gainful employment and improved outcomes for refugees,” commented Deepa Somasundari, Senior Director of ESG Strategic Initiatives at Indeed. “Too many job seekers have trouble finding work because of barriers that are built into the hiring process. Our mission is to help all people get jobs and we are committed to using our technology, insights and networks to make sure everyone has access to opportunity.”
Interpretation in Ukrainian, English, Russian, Romani and Sign Language will be available to help facilitate the recruitment process.
