PRESS RELEASE: The Tent Partnership for Refugees, Budensagentur für Arbeit, and Jobcenter München Connect Around 1,000 Job Seekers to 21 Companies at First Job Fair for Refugees in Munich
Munich, 31 May 2023 – The Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent), alongside its partners the Budensagentur für Arbeit and Jobcenter München, hosted a job fair on 24 May to help refugees find employment in Bavaria that saw around 1000 job seekers in attendance.
The event, held at The Westin Grand Munich, saw 21 major companies – including adidas, Deutsche Post DHL, and Marriott (full list below) – conduct hundreds of interviews and extend job offers to fill vacancies across a variety of sectors and skill levels, from entry level through to managerial positions.
“Germany is home to more than two million refugees, and many are still searching for work despite large-scale labor shortages across many sectors.” said Christian Schmidt, Germany Country Director at the Tent Partnership for Refugees. “By partnering with Budensagentur für Arbeit and Jobcenter München, and deepening our local reach, we were proud to host the first large-scale hiring fairs for refugees in Bavaria. With hundreds of refugee job seekers able to connect directly with a host of major businesses, this is just the start of Tent’s continued efforts with the Munich business community to further accelerate the economic integration of refugees in the region.”
Refugees face numerous barriers to employment, including limited local language proficiency, minimal understanding of the local job market, lack of professional networks, and limited digital skills. As shortages in Germany’s labor market are rife – with 1.7 million job vacancies in July 2022 – Tent works with companies in Germany to advise them on how they can help refugees overcome these barriers, create more inclusive recruitment and hiring processes, and integrate them in their workforce.

About the Tent Partnership for Refugees:
With more and more refugees displaced for longer periods of time, businesses have a critical role to play in helping refugees integrate economically in their new communities. Tent was launched in 2016 by Hamdi Ulukaya, the CEO and founder of Chobani – a multibillion dollar food company in the U.S. – to mobilize global businesses to fill this gap by helping connect refugees to work. Today, Tent is a network of over 300 major companies committed to hiring, training, and mentoring refugees. Find out more at www.tent.org.
